Thomas Becket Catholic School

Thomas Becket Catholic School

Thomas Becket Catholic School is an inclusive school that endeavours to achieve maximum inclusion of all our learners, regardless of their learning needs.

Senior leaders, middle and pastoral leaders and subject teachers are all responsible for providing differentiated learning opportunities for all learners within the school.  Appropriate materials are provided to match to learner’s interests and abilities.  This ensures that all learners have full access to the school.

Learners identified as having a disability or a special educational need either upon entry or during their time at Thomas Becket will receive additional learning support.  They will have a ‘Pupil Passport’.  This document will allow all staff to fully differentiate their lessons to support learning and teaching.  Also learners with Education, Health and Social Care (EHC) plans or Statements of special needs will receive support in line with needs highlighted on their plans.

Our SEN support model follows a graduated approach to appropriately support all our SEN learners.

At wave one all lessons across the curriculum will be differentiated to support all learning needs within the classroom.  As well as this small group intervention is offered at a department level.

At wave two where a learners needs cannot be met at a classroom or departmental level the learner will be allocated appropriate short term provision.  These interventions may include:

  • Additional  one to one support
  • Personal Impact
  • Boys Achievement Group
  • Girls Achievement Group
  • Literacy Intervention
  • Numeracy Intervention
  • Precision teaching
  • Paired Reading
  • Peer Mentoring
  • Phonics Programme
  • Protective Behaviour
  • Self Esteem Support
  • Social, Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL)

If further support is needed we will work closely with outside agencies to seek further advice and an Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be in place.  This will support us to submit applications for high needs funding or EHC plans where necessary.
